Stainless Steel Care Advisory Products or variants containing exposed stainless steel offer excellent corrosion resistance but are not rust-proof or stain-proof. Periodic cleaning and maintenance are required, especially in coastal, poolside, and high-chloride environments. See our Stainless Steel Disclaimer and Care & Maintenance Guide.

316 Satin Stainless Steel 1x19 cable has a smooth, highly polished surface with no burrs. It is durable, stable, corrosion-resistant, and fatigue-resistant, and is designed for decades of use. Breaking strength is approximately 1,800–2,100 lbs for 1/8" and 2,800–3,300 lbs for 5/32", making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Why 1x19 Is the Standard for Cable Railing

For cable railing infill, you want cable that stays as rigid as possible and resists stretch over time. That's why 316 stainless 1x19 construction is the standard recommendation for railing, over alternatives like 7x7 and 7x19, which are less rigid, stretch more under tension, and have lower breaking strength at the same diameter. Architectural cable suppliers commonly spec 1x19 for deck and railing infill because it's stiff, holds tension, and has a smooth, clean finish.

Higher Breaking Strength 1x19 has a higher breaking strength than 7x7 or 7x19 at the same diameter, giving more margin for guardrail loading
Stays Tight, Resists Stretch Far less elongation/creep over time than 7x7, so runs need less re-tensioning and are less likely to sag out of code-compliant spacing (the 4" sphere test) over the years
Cleaner, Less Fraying 1x19's solid-strand construction resists the "broom-straw" fraying that 7x7 can show at a cut end, making it easier to get a clean, tight swaged fitting
Smooth, Rigid Finish Very stiff with a smooth, polished appearance — the look and feel expected on modern deck and stair railing

This is why we carry 1x19 316 stainless exclusively for cable railing infill: it's the construction built for structural, tension-holding runs that need to stay code-compliant and look clean for decades, not just at installation.
