*Calculation basis: Simply supported 39 in span between handrail bracket attachment points with a 200 lb concentrated transverse load at midspan. Elastic modulus and yield assumptions: aluminum 10 Msi / 35 ksi; stainless steel 28 Msi / 30 ksi. Installation assumptions include 16 in on-center stud spacing and a 35° stair angle.
Choose the correct material and profile
- Satin 316 Stainless Steel: preferred for exterior, coastal, pool-area, commercial, and high-corrosion projects when properly maintained.
- Black Powder-Coated 304 Stainless Steel: a durable black finish over stainless steel, best suited to interior and standard non-coastal applications.
- Black Matte Aluminum (6005A-T61): a lightweight architectural tube with a high-performance painted finish. This is aluminum—not black stainless steel.
Round components fit our 1-2/3 in (42.4 mm) round handrail tube. Square components fit our 1-9/16 in (40 × 40 mm) square handrail tube. Stainless-steel tubing uses a heavy 12-gauge / 0.102 in / 2.6 mm wall; black aluminum tubing uses a 0.083 in / 2.1 mm wall.
Finish choices vary by product. Check the product title and finish selector before ordering so the substrate, profile, and connection type match the rest of your system. Tubing 9 ft and longer ships by LTL freight; shorter sections can be connected with the matching 180° joiner.
