Installations for products offered by Inline Design must comply with local and national building codes. Inline Design provides relevant information about code compliance throughout the website, specification sheets and instructional booklets. The information may only serve as a guide (advisory capacity) and should not be used to address building compliance issues or compliance with safety standards. Inline Design is not liable for any non-compliance that may arise from installations or improper use of company products.
For more information about local building codes, customers are encouraged to call their city specialist or contact a relevant Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

Prior to using any railing products from any vendor it is incumbent on the homeowner, designer, fabricator and installer to make themselves familiar with local building codes that apply to their applications. While our products are designed to meet the code requirements for the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) requirements we do not specify the method to attach the system to the structure.
Every effort is made at Inline Design in the design of our products to meet the structural strength requirements for handrail, guardrails and ADA rails. Our engineering team works hard to to make sure all designs meet both the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) requirements
Infill Load Test: The strength of the balusters are tested so that a one-square foot area must resist 50 lbs of force.
Uniform Load Test: The top rail must be able to sustain 125 lbs of force applied horizontally or vertically.
Concentrated Load Test: The top rail must be capable of holding a point load of 200 lbs of force applied to the mid span, on the side of a post and on top of a post.
A safety factor of 2.5 is usually added to the testing.
We are currently in the process of working with one of the leading Mechanical Engineering Firms to have our entire family of products receive a general Engineering Stamp that support these codes.
316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel
All of our railings and components are comprised of high-quality, marine-grade 316 stainless steel. This robust material is suitable for indoor, outdoor and beach-front areas. 316 stainless steel is excellent for applications within five miles of saltwater or seawater due to its corrosion-resistant properties.
This type of stainless steel contains a higher concentration of molybdenum, compared to other stainless-steel variants, resulting in active resistance to pitting and corrosion that is common in marine-based locations, docks, shipyards, commercial sites, industrial facilities and general public locations.
Our 316 stainless steel components are randomly lab tested to ensure the metallurgic makeup meets the standards for 316 stainless steel and corrosion resistance. Testing is conducted by Metal Test Inc. in Kent, WA.

Railing System Square Bar
Rather than being a true square bar, each horizontal steel bar that spans posts is rectangular, measuring 9/16″ x 3/16″ x 8.2’. These bars are sturdy and sleek, without looking bulky. For compatibility during installation, Inline Design offers two post-kit options: 36″ and 42″. These are only available in top mount and square. Posts measuring 36″ are fabricated to require seven spans of horizontal bars between each post. Taller posts measuring 42″ are fabricated to require nine spans between each post. Each of these posts can be used as an end or middle post. We also offer 36″ and 42″ fabricated corner posts.
Cable Railing System Engineering Detail
Cable railing systems feature full stainless steel fittings and cable. Our cable railings require a handrail for stability against natural pulling forces of the cable. The styles are interchangeable; a square post can be used with a round top rail and a round post can be used with a square top rail. We offer a variety of top rail fittings in order to create a continuous, sleek top-rail system. Both of our post-mounted handrail brackets, pyramid and cone, are compatible with wood and other top-rail options.

Maintenance and Cleaning
In order to improve the material’s resilient features against corrosive elements, Inline Design recommends the application of a powerful solution (Stainless Steel Passivating Kit - CitriSurf ® 77 Plus) that is capable of protecting metallic railing systems available on the website. The coating solution is effective for a set period of time, based on the climate and conditions of the area. Units exposed to harsh climates may require frequent coatings – every six months to a year. Locations that experience moderate to calm climates may only need to reapply the solution every year to every few years. A stainless steel cleaner from your local hardware store needs to be applied at the end in order to seal the material.
