Tip Sheet - Stair Guidance - Details

Stairs Details

In order to better assist you in designing the railing of your stairs, we are going to need some dimensions as described in the diagram below.

In addition,  photos of the stairs help to better visualize your project. One photo should show all of the steps.

The angle can be calculated using an angle finder app on your phone. The iPhone is equipped with the Measure App to calculate the angle How to use the angle finder on your iPhone. For Android/Google phone users we recommend this app Clinometer + bubble level

The angle of the stairs measurement

Please place a straight piece of wood that covers as many steps as possible so the measurement is an average measurement of the angle. The run and rise of the stairs are not 100% equal and are not 100% horizontal and vertical. Measuring the average angle of the stairs is the best field measurements that can be provided along with the nose to nose distance as shown in the drawing.

The stairs information needed are the following (See below image)

  1. The nose to nose distance
  2. The angle of the stairs
  3. Pictures that show the full length of the stairs with the total number of steps

Sending the information

Please send us this information by email to sales@inlinedesign.us or by fax to (866) 864 0608.

CAD drawings will be provided for custom stairs projects.  Inline Design also makes available information about placing stair posts and installing the railing to ensure proper alignment.
